In these modern times, our world seems to be constantly in this need of going fast and going faster. There is really no popular motto or mantra that encourages us to take it slow and keep it steady.
Technology may hold some part of the blame. We have phones that can allow us access to almost any kind of information with a speed never before imagined. I myself am able to do my banking on my phone, make phone calls to restaurants to place an order, and play video games simultaneously. I am pretty sure that generations prior to my own could not have foreseen the toys that grown adults get to have now.
The thing is: whenever technology allows for things to be done in a quicker fashion, it seems our temperaments become less patient. If we can get pop tarts heated within a few seconds in a microwave, then doggone it, I want everything else to be that fast.
I want to get to work right away; there should not be any traffic. I want my food at a popular restaurant right away; I should not have to wait for others to have to receive theirs. As a matter of fact, when I step foot in the restaurant, I want to be seated immediately; how dare someone ever would think that I could wait longer than a minute?
Does any of that ever sound like you?
I would encourage each of us to think about taking life a little more slowly. Enjoy your food….slowly. Enjoy listening to your loved ones….slowly. Enjoy a nice walk from time to time….and go slowly. Try not to rush anywhere. You may not be able to go slowly to work, but get up and out early enough to not feel so rushed. Be patient with others. If all of us were more patient with each other, we would have a world of people being a bit more respectful of the human beings beside them.
Really…sometimes….slowly is better!
